These super fun number mats help kids learn about the numbers one to ten in a hands-on way.
Print and laminate the mats so they can be used with an erasable marker. You could also place the mats inside a clear sheet protector.
Next grab a cookie tray and fill a bowl with these magnetic letters: E, F, G, H, I, N, O, R, S, T, U, V, W, X .
At least two of every letter works well.
You will also need an erasable marker. I prefer regular kids washable markers because they wipe off easily with a damp cloth.
How To Play
Step 1 Read and make it
Begin by reading the number at the top of the mat. Then kids can make the number word using magnetic letters or they can trace it with an erasable marker.
Step 2 Count it
Count the number of teddies on the ten frame. Kids can also count out that amount with real counting bears or other counters. Remind children to touch each bear as they say the number and ask “How many?” after they’ve counted them all.
Step 2 Write it
Trace the numbers using an erasable marker. Model how to form the letters correctly.
If you love using magnetic letters, you may also like the magnetic letters literacy center activities which cover: CVC (e.g. cat), CCVC (e.g. ship) and CVCe (e.g. cake) words.
