Feelings Playdough Mats for Kids

Pin

These feelings playdough mats help kids learn to identify emotions and develop social-emotional skills. They’re suitable for kids in pre-k, preschool, kindergarten and kids with special needs.

Feelings Playdough Mats

These playdough mats feature culturally diverse clip art which the kids are sure to love! The first version has feelings faces already on the mats, so the kids can place the playdough on top. I find these ones helpful for kids who need additional visual support. The second version has a large blank face and a small face with the expression in the corner. So kids can refer to the small face if they forget what a facial expression looks like.

Preparation – Start by choosing the feelings playdough mats that fit the needs of your students. Next print the playdough mats and laminate them for added durability. Finally, grab some playdough and you’re set to go. You can also put these mats in a dry erase pocket sleeve. I ordered mine from eBay, but most office supply stores sell them too.

How to Play – Begin by choosing a playdough mat. Read the emotion and talk about a time when you might feel like that. For example, you might feel happy when you get to go to the park to play. Next, grab some playdough and make that facial expression. Once the kids have finished making that particular emotion, they can either choose another mat or continue to work on that feeling with another activity. For example, they might draw a picture about a time when they felt that way.

Kids can also draw the faces with an erasable marker instead of using playdough.
