Halloween Math Activities for Kids

Pin

These Halloween math activities are such a fun addition to October centers! The math centers cover skills such as counting, number identification, colors, patterning, measurement and shapes. They’re suitable for kids in Preschool, Pre-K and Kindergarten.

Halloween Math Centers

Over the years I’ve come to associate teaching math with hands-on activities. The Halloween math activities below are easy to prep and require just a few manipulatives such as counters, dice and popsicle sticks.

Number Recognition Activities

One of my all time favorite number recognition activities is building a fence out of popsicle sticks! Start by writing the numbers one through to twenty on some popsicle sticks with a fine tip marker. Next grab one of the number fence mats. Then get the kids to place the numbers in order by matching the number on the popsicle stick to the number on the mat. Finally read the numbers from left to right to make sure they’re in the correct order.

Counting Mats

These counting mats are awesome if you have kids working on different sets of numbers. I’ve included options for numbers up to 10, 20 or 30. Begin by placing a number card on the mat. Next read the number and then count that amount onto the ten frame. Finally re-count the number one by one to check there is the right amount.

Other Halloween Math Activities

I love adding measurement and patterning activities to my math centers. The measurement cards shown below help kids learn to measure with non-standard units. I’ve also included a set of patterning cards to help kids learn about patterning.

Halloween Color Activities

The following color activities include both American and Australian spelling – yay! Begin by laying out the color mats. Next ask the kids to sort the pictures onto the mat. After that they can complete the magic potion coloring page. There’s also a pom pom mat, which is a fun way for older kids to develop their color recognition AND fine motor skills.
