Kids will love playing in this airport dramatic play center! It is so fun and easy to set up, especially if you have some cardboard boxes that are just waiting to be transformed!
Airport Dramatic Play Center
There are a few things aside from the airport dramatic play center printables, which make your airport super fun!
Baggage X-Ray – This is simple to make.Simply cut the ends off a cardboard box and then attache some black strips to the end of the box. I just used regular black card stock. Then I covered the box with some blue tissue paper and attached the sign.
Security Gate – It’s fun to set up a walk through security gate. This can be done using an portable clothes rack or by making an arch out of construction materials – such as straws and connectors. For the hand held security device, you can improvise with something like a brush. I’ve also made a scanner printable which you can glue on to a bit of cardboard.
Pretend Airplane – You can create a role play airplane by setting up a few rows of chairs. I placed the printable windows on the nearby wall and the “in-flight” entertainment screen printable to the backs of the chairs. If you have a large piece of cardboard around, you can also create an airplane cut out and attach it to the sides of the chairs.
Airport Small World
Another way you can extend your airport dramatic play center is to set up an airplane small world. I made a runway out two long pieces of cardboard taped together. I added the parts of an airport and parts of an airplane signs. Then I placed some airport figurines that I found at a discount store near the runway.
Collaborative STEM Project
Last year I created an airport with my students which was really fun! First we painted some grass on a large sheet of paper. Once it was dry the kids glued on the printable roads. They created the airport control tower and terminal out of recyclable boxes and painted them. The kids also made airplanes out of pegs. I wish I had kept a photo. But what I have done, is made some printable roads to go with the airport printables so that it’s easy for other kids to create an airport too.
This airport dramatic play center includes everything I could think of!
I really love the printable passports which come in both a color and blackline version. I printed the blackline version on red and blue color paper. Then I stapled the cover to the pages with real passport stamp clip art – so cute! I just get the kids to stamp the passports with regular teacher stamps and we “pretend” they are passport stamps. :)
