These Saint Patrick’s day math activities help kids learn counting and numbers to ten. Suitable for Pre-K, Preschool & Kindergarten.
Saint Patrick’s Day – Counting to 10
This counting mat is also a fun way for kids to learn how to write numbers.
Preparation – Begin by printing and laminating the mat for added durability. Personally, I also like to put mine in a dry erase pocket sleeve too because it is SO much easier to wipe clean. I bought mine online from eBay. Once your mat is all prepped, you’ll also need to grab some counters, a dry erase marker and a cloth to wipe the mat clean.
How to Play – Start by counting ten counters onto the ten frame. Next, re-count the counters starting with the first counter. I remind the kids to touch each counter once as they say the number. After the kids have counted to ten, get them to read the numbers on the right from 0 to 10. Finally, grab the erasable marker and trace the numbers. Encourage the kids to start where the dot is, to help them with the correct number formation.
Saint Patrick’s Day – Ten Frames Clip Cards
These cute leprechaun clip cards feature ten frames with gold coins. They’re a fun way to develop counting, number and fine motor skills!
Preparation – Start by printing and laminating the number clip cards for added durability. Then grab a basket and fill it with clothes pins. I love using some mini clothes pins that I found in the craft section.
How to Play – Choose a card and count the number of coins on the ten frame. Then grab a clothes pin and clip it to the correct number. Continue playing until all of the cards are finished.
Tip – If you’d like the kids to be able to self- correct, you can flip the cards over and put a sticker or dot behind the correct answer.
