Australian Money Math Centres
The following money activities are fun additions to math centres.
Dinosaur Egg Rescue – For this game you’ll need the work mat and Australian play coins.
How to Play – Kids need to read the amount of money and then make that amount using different coin combinations.
The Money Train – This is a fun game to help kids order coins and notes.
How to Play – Kids need to place the coins in the correct order. There’s also a game they can play where they spin a coin spinner and add the coins to the train. When each carriage is full, the kids can practise skip counting the coins.
Robot Money Puzzles – These puzzles help kids to count coins. The puzzles are colour coded according to the level of difficulty. To play this game kids need to read the amount and then find the robot half with the same amount of coins.
Money Value Puzzles – These help kids to make a connection between each coin and its value.
How to Play – Kids need to look at the coin and find the puzzle piece with the matching amount. Once finished they can see the types of things that you can buy with each amount.
Russian Doll Money Puzzles – These help kids to count small amounts of Australian coins and notes.
Matching Jar Puzzles – These help kids to count coins and to find different ways of making the same amount.

I made a set of Australian money worksheets that explore each coin and note. The money worksheets build skills such as counting and ordering coins and notes. Kids also learn how to calculate change from small amounts.
The worksheet below explores twenty cents. Kids learn to identify, write and count twenty cents in different ways. There is a worksheet like this for every coin and note.
