Gingerbread CVC Activities
These free gingerbread CVC activities are a fun addition to kindergarten literacy centers. They help kids to spell three letter words like mug, web and map.
Gingerbread CVC Activities
These free gingerbread CVC mats can be used in a few different ways. They focus on helping kids to spell three letter CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words.
Magnetic Letter CVC Activities
Preparation – Print and laminate the resources for added durability. Then cut along the dotted lines to separate the cards. I’ve included a storage label and word list which includes a list of the magnetic letters the kids will need. Once you’ve prepped the resources fill a basket with magnetic letters or place those letters on a cookie sheet.
How to Play – First kids choose a CVC card and place it on their CVC mat. Next they need to sound out the word, so that they are identifying the first, middle and final sound. For example, map /m/ /a/ /p/. After that they need to find those letters and spell the word on their mat. Then it’s time to choose another card to spell!
Write and Wipe CVC Activities
Preparation – This activity requires the same preparation as above except instead of magnetic letters you’ll need an erasable marker.
How to Play – First kids choose a CVC card and place it on their CVC mat. Next they need to sound out the word, so that they are identifying the first, middle and final sound. For example, web /w/ /e/ /b/. After that they need to find those letters on the alphabet strip and write the word on their mat. Then it’s time to choose another card to spell!

More Fun Activities for Christmas
The gingerbread CVC activities can be used all year round or at Christmas time. If you’re prepping for the festive season like me then be sure to check out my latest North Pole Dramatic Play center, which I am SO excited about! It contains four different centers in one – a Mail Center (writing), an Elve’s / Santa’s Workshop (constructing toys with manipulatives or box construction) and a Cookie Bakery (playdough). There’s also generic North Pole resources which includes signs for a Santa’s Sleigh, Reindeer Stable and The Polar Express. It so much fun!
