Ice Cream Number Playdough Mats

These FREE ice cream playdough mats help kids develop their counting, fine motor and number recognition skills. They’re a fun addition to summer math centers in Pre-K, Preschool and Kindergarten.

Number Mats (1 to 10)

The first set of playdough mats focus on learning individual numbers between one and ten.

Preparation – Start by printing and laminating the resources for added durability. Alternatively, you can pop the mats into a dry erase pocket sleeve. I love these for reducing the need to laminate EVERYTHING! I bought mine online from eBay, but I think you can grab them from most office supply stores.  Finally, grab an erasable marker and some playdough. Now you’re all set to go!

How to Play
– Begin by choosing a mat. First read the number and then make it out of playdough. Next make that amount of scoops and place them on the ice cream cones. After that count the number of scoops and say how many there are.

Extension activity – You can also start this activity by tracing the number and the scoops with an erasable marker. This is another fun way for kids to develop their fine motor skills.

Ice Cream Playdough Mats – Counting to Ten

I’ve also included a mat which has the ice creams represented in a ten frame formation. These are a fun way for kids to revise their counting skills.

Preparation – Either laminate the mat for added durability or put it in a dry erase pocket sleeve.

How to Play – First read the numbers from one to ten. Next get the kids to use their fine motor skills to knead the playdough into ten scoops. They need to place one scoop on top of each ice cream cone. This is a fun way to help them develop one to one correspondence. Once all of the scoops have been made, count them in order from one to ten.
