These solar system activities include a set of planet worksheets that can be made into a research workbook. They’re a great addition to space themed unit in first grade or second grade.
Space is one of those topics that I always look forward to teaching. I love learning about the unique features of each planet!
Solar System Worksheets
These planet worksheets help kids to research the unique features of each planet. Begin by looking at the planet order at the top of the page. Next circle the planet. After that research the planet using books or the internet. Then color in the planet and write some interesting facts. What I really love about these worksheets is that kids can write facts that are most interesting to them.
I highly recommend the Space Place website by NASA for helping kids to learn about each planet. It has an awesome range of resources, so be sure to check it out!
Solar System Workbooks
You can choose to use the worksheets on there own or you can make them into a workbook.
How to Make the Workbook – First print the workbook cover page and the worksheets. Then staple the pages together. I decided to bind my copy together for added durability because I plan on using it as a teaching example for many years to come! There’s a spot on the cover page for students to write their name.
I’ve included both a color and black and white version. I used the color version for my teacher copy (to use as an example). But as you know color printing can get expensive, so there’s a black and white version for students which they can color in themselves. That way kids can discover the color of each planet as part of their research!
I hope these planet activities help your students learn lots of interesting facts about the solar system. I know I learnt a lot of really interesting planet facts! Definitely check out the Space Place website – it’s an amazing resource for students and teachers!
